File Manager for Porsche — Android Automotive

In October 2023, Porsche announced a strategic collaboration with Google to bring Android Automotive OS with Google Automotive Services (GAS) to its future vehicles. This partnership expands Porsche's connectivity and in-car software capabilities, bringing Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play Store, and native Android apps — including AnExplorer — to Porsche's premium infotainment displays.

Porsche Macan — Premium Electric SUV with Android Automotive

The Porsche Macan (2024+) is one of the first Porsche models to launch with Android Automotive. With AnExplorer on the Macan:

  • USB Management: Browse and manage dashcam footage, photos, and media from the premium curved display
  • Wireless Transfer: Transfer music, playlists, and navigation POI files from your phone over WiFi without cables
  • Cloud Storage: Access Dropbox, OneDrive, and other cloud services for seamless media streaming
  • APK Sideloading: Install apps not yet available in the Play Store for additional functionality

Porsche Taycan — Sports Sedan with Advanced Features

The Porsche Taycan (2025+) represents Porsche's electric performance segment and will include full Android Automotive support. AnExplorer on the Taycan enables:

  • Professional-grade file management from the large center display
  • Multi-user profile support for shared vehicle workflows
  • Premium cloud storage integration with Porsche's connected services

Note: Only Porsche vehicles with Google Built-in Android Automotive (PCM 7.0+) support the full Play Store and native Android apps like AnExplorer.

Why Porsche Chose Google Partnership

The collaboration reflects:

  1. Premium user experience through Google's ecosystem
  2. Over-the-air software updates via Google Play system
  3. Advanced navigation and voice with Google Maps and Assistant
  4. Developer ecosystem for future third-party apps
  5. Seamless connectivity with personal devices and home systems

Wireless Transfer from Phone

Move playlists, podcasts, or navigation POI files from your Android phone to the Porsche without a cable:

  1. On your phone: AnExplorer → WiFi Share → select files
  2. On Porsche infotainment: AnExplorer → Network → WiFi Receive
  3. Accept — files transfer over Porsche Connect LTE or home WiFi

Useful for loading a long audiobook or album before a drive without fiddling with USB cables.

Sideload Apps on Porsche Android Automotive

Some apps are not yet in the automotive Play Store. AnExplorer's APK installer handles sideloading:

  1. Copy the APK to a FAT32 formatted USB drive
  2. Plug into the USB-C port in the Porsche centre console
  3. Open AnExplorer → USB Storage → tap the APK
  4. Tap Install — the app appears in the Porsche launcher

Porsche PCM History — What Supports AAOS

PCM GenerationSystemAAOS SupportAnExplorer

PCM 6 (current ICE)Proprietary / partial AndroidNot supported
PCM 7 (Macan EV 2024+)Android Automotive OS (e3 platform)Full support
Future PCM (2025+)Android Automotive OSFull support

The e3 Premium Platform — shared across Porsche Macan EV, Audi Q6 e-tron, and selected VW Group EVs — is the hardware that enables native AAOS. Vehicles on this platform carry the "Google Built-in" designation and have Google Play Store access embedded in the infotainment.

How to verify: Open the Porsche infotainment launcher. If a Google Play Store icon is visible, Android Automotive is active. If you only see Android Auto (which requires a connected phone), your vehicle does not run AAOS natively.

Why AnExplorer on Porsche?

Porsche's AAOS implementation provides access to the full Play Store, but there is no native file manager in Porsche's default app set. AnExplorer fills this gap:

  1. Dashcam management — copy Porsche's integrated camera recordings to USB or cloud without a PC
  2. USB media browsing — organise and play large music or audiobook libraries from USB drives
  3. Wireless file transfer — refresh playlists wirelessly before a drive
  4. Cloud access — Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive over Porsche Connect LTE
  5. APK sideloading — install apps not yet approved for automotive Play Store
